Hike'in in Hope

Monday, July 11, 2011
First off, I have to say thank you for all the kind words regarding Grammie...

We went on a Hike'N'Camp trip in Hope, AK with Kaity and Hunter last weekend. We got a bit of a late start leaving Anchorage Saturday morning, so we modified our hiking plans. Our campsite (also the most scenic camp site I've seen, right next to a river) was 7 miles off the main road, so rather than backtrack to do the hike we had intended to do, we did "Create your own Hike". We saw a mountain that looked a little less intimidating than the surrounding ones, and hiked it. And that's how the "Fuzzy Knoll" hike came to exist.

Unbeknownst to us, what we thought was the summit was not really the summit, so we had to keep climbing. The "off-roading" (ie brush) added a layer of complexity-- for SURE. At one point, we were eyeball height in some plants calling out, "Hey Bear, Hey Bear."

Well, I can tell you that I feel more Alaskan with a back country hike under my pocket.

Break time on the way up.

We thought this was the summit, turned out it was just an illusion.

View from the Pseudo Summit.

Summit Numero Uno.

We made it to the top ridgeline!

The views were awesome. You can barely make out the Seward highway/Anchorage in the background.

The boys: Hunter and Ross.

Check out the Ridgeline!

Mountain Pup.

Miss Roma probably hiked the mountain 3 times.

For the majority of the hike, Roma couldn't really see where she was going, so she was pretty excited when we got to the flower patch.

Home sweet home. Check out our new 3 person tent. Ross thought the box might be wrong when he set up the tent for the first time. He got out a tape measure just to make sure it was indeed a 3 person tent (rather than just a double).

Dinner time. Italian Sausage por favor.

Mommy's lap dog. She was worn out. Look at those sleepy eyes.

Here's the stats from our hike:
