DEUTSCHLAND COUNTDOWN

Thursday, September 17, 2009
Went to the Dr. yesterday and got some antibiotics that will hopefully make me feel all better by Saturday! Robbie & Steph came over to eat Ross's World Famous Chili and catch up. Steph had ASA surgery which is kind of like Lasik, but not Lasik. I'm really hoping to get an eye procedure done sometime next year, but we'll see (get it?, "see" haha).
If you are wondering if Ross and I are all packed up and ready for the trip... the answer is NO. We are hoping to be very productive this evening. We are going down to Clear Lake tomorrow to spend the night with the Huebel's. They will be watching Roma AND taking us to the airport.
We will be in Munich on my Birthday-- #25!! I wonder if they have yummy cake there...? :)

Let's Hunt

Sunday, September 13, 2009
We had a nice weekend hanging out with my Dad. Have you all heard about his new hobby? It definitely deserves a mention. I don't know exactly where Dad picked up the hunting itch. I'm guessing it's the Huebel influence :) Anyhow, Friday's activities included a trip to the shooting range so that Dad could test out Ross's guns to see which he preferred. Ross's Browning was the winner. We ate at Goode Co seafood for lunch (always a winner) and then went to Carter's Country to look at used guns. I couldn't have felt more like a third wheel. It was pretty funny. I would like to point out that gun manufacturers do make a pink gun to appeal to the ladies, in case anyone wanted to know. Back at the house, we had "Make Your Own Pizza" night and watched "Frost/Nixon."

On Saturday the Huebel parents came over for dinner. Ross smoked a cajun-style turkey. Now I eat turkey, but it has never been something to get excited about. It is just that meat that you have to have on too many holiday occasions. BUT this turkey was DELISH! It was tender and smokey and the flavor was on the outside AND the inside.

The countdown for our trip to Germany has officially begun! We leave this Saturday, 5 days!

YUM-MO! I made ice cream sandwiches with the mocha creamies for dessert tonight. Big hit with the dad and the ross.

Chicken of the Sea

Tuesday, September 8, 2009
So it feels like a Monday, BUT it is a Tuesday. That's not a bad feeling at all, especially when it's an off-Friday week. Yay, 3 days of work!

I was sitting at my desk this morning, trying to wake up with the usual blueberry scones and coffee, when a none too familiar face poked up around the window of my cubicle... DAD!! He's so stealth he breached security! .. No. I'm kidding. Dad arrived in Houston last night to attend a BP training class this week and stopped by my office before heading to Day 1.  (Dad & I used to have this morning check-in routine when we worked in the same city AND the same building). He will be saving BP vasts amounts of $$ by getting room & board at the Huebel house the rest of the week. As the company motto says, "Every Dollar Counts!"

I need to take just a moment to gripe about canned salmon. Just to clarify, not the canned tuna equivalent of salmon, but wild pink salmon- Royal Pink.  I was all set to make salmon cakes with a soy/ginger sauce for dinner tonight, until I opened the salmon. It was like they took the head/tail off the fish and then sent all the rest through the grinder. Seriously? I paid for bones and skin, really? Roma didn't even want to eat any- that's when you know it's bad. The garbage disposal ate salmon for dinner. Never again will I make this mistake. Luckily, I had canned tuna on hand. You can always depend on tuna. Salmon cakes turned into tuna cakes :)

Sunday afternoon siesta, any takers??

When Ross goes to the Ranch...

Sunday, September 6, 2009
Ross headed to the ranch on Friday after work. He and Adam had a long To-Do list, which included getting electricity hooked up to the RV we now have out there. Ross also bought a new bow stand and wanted to get that set up before deer season starts (1st weekend in November). As tempting as the trip was, I decided to stay home. Afterall, someone's got to watch Roma! On sat morning I woke up and went for a long run in town at Terry Hershey Park. I got some new running shoes and they just wanted to keep going... 5mi, 6mi, 7mi-- stop, no more! When I got home I took Roma to the dog park to run around, sniff, swim, etc. (I can't take her on long runs with me because she is a pestie & pulls on the leash).

Britany came over for a dinner/movie/slumber party night. We went and ate at a local Italian place, Hasta La Pasta. It was pretty good, not the best, but close by and had good wine prices. Afterwards, we went to see Sandra Bullock's new movie "All About Steve."
I wasn't expecting an Oscar from a romantic comedy, but it was AWFUL!!! I don't always agree with reviews, but the New York Times review was spot on.

Ross comes home this afternoon!

Grammie's Bday Party

Friday, September 4, 2009
Grammie celebrated her 80th Birthday Party last weekend. I wasn't able to attend, but I heard it was lovely affair. Of course it wouldn't have been complete without a lavendar birthday cake and beautiful flowers!

I must say, I still miss Grampie serving Grammie & I breakfast in the feather bed "Nest." Punkie or Chocey Donie's  (Pumpkin or Chocolate doughnuts) never tasted so good! Love the Grammie!

"Top Chef"

Thursday, September 3, 2009
There is not much better than plunking down on the couch on a Wed night, with a bowl of ice cream in hand, to watch a new episode of Top Chef. Ross & I don't have a similar taste in TV shows most of the time. Ross watches airplane/military/comedy shows and I have been know to watch a reality show (or 2). However, we both LOVE Top Chef. Maybe it's because we both enjoy all things food. Le sigh. I'm hungry now...
