South Africa: All About the Food

Thursday, May 17, 2012
South African food is pretty good, not the BEST ever, but it sure was more of a bargain. Here's some food pictures...
We decided that the Westin had the BEST breakfast buffet we'd ever had at a hotel. Complete with smoothie/juice bar: Banana Smoothis, Papaya juice, Blueberry Yogurt Smoothie, Spinach/Mango Smoothie. Hello mornings.

Hot & Cold Tables... and bfast to order!

Yep, even cold cuts and sushi.

Ross's SA beer of choice and the mojito, my cocktail of choice.

We went to Nobu Cape Town for date night and did the 5-course Chef Tasting Menu... The meal was rather complicated so I won't try to explain each course, but you can see the pictures!

Yellowfin Tuna.

When the dessert came out it looked just like a solid chocolate ball. Then they poured hot chocolate fudge on it and the ball melted to give way to vanilla ice cream inside. Ummm, what?! Delish!

That was the end of our Nobu tasting menu.

Parmesan House Salad.

Grilled Calamari. (again, on every menu!)

Chicken spitzele with dijon sauce.

Breakfast at the Blackheath Lodge was really good, made fresh every morning right before our eyes. Great little granola/jam quiche things and fresh fruit salad.

French Onion Soup.

Shrimp Ceviche- yes, please!

Ginormous filet.

Typical midday food during the hunts. "Roan" sausage, carmelized onions, and pasta salad.

We just made our first nice dinner in our kitchen since we got back from our trip and it felt so. good. :)
