An Apple a Day...

Thursday, June 28, 2012
You know the saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Well, Miss Roma will happily heed this advice.

Roma especially likes to share apples with Mom...

Roma looks so funny when she munches on bits of apple.

Roma's Birdie

Tuesday, June 26, 2012
Roma's buddies, Skeeter and Fenway, gave her a "get well" stuffed animal toy last week to help Roma recuperate after her surgery to remove her toe. I think it worked.

Before: Brand new toy, slightly drugged up pup.

"Mom this toy is amazing: it's stuffed and it squeaks. I promise I won't bite open the birdie and trek stuffing all over the house..."

"How about, don't tell Dad? He takes away all my squeaky toys because I wake him up in the morning on the weekends."

After: A decapitated birdie, with trails of stuffing all over the house.

The toy was so worth it :) Roma is back at full speed, and 1 toe down for the count (see it in the picture above?) But I think she's cuter than ever and finally ready to conquer the Alaskan summer!

Hike: Bird Ridge

Monday, June 25, 2012
Bird Ridge Hike is definitely one of the hardest hikes in the Anchorage area. Last year when we did Bird Ridge, it was the day after our Cinco de Mayo party and everyone was feeling the after affects of the tequila. Needless to say, we did not summit the top. But, now we can say we have!

In Alaska, you learn it's all about the elevation gain AND the distance- Bird Ridge is 3300' in 2.3 miles. I'm not sure we've done a steeper hike before. My buns were definitely feeling the burn! Ross decided to do some training for his upcoming Dall sheep hunt and strapped on a 30lb pack. It definitely slowed him down, but I think it's going to improve his sheep hunt stamina and I really like to eat sheep backstrap so...

Jolin's Baby Shower

Sunday, June 24, 2012
Abbey and I hosted a "Tiny and Tough" Dinner Party Baby Shower for Jolin on Friday evening. We had 12 fabulous ladies in attendance and some truly amazing weather. Check out the pictures!

Setting up for dinner.

I'd say this fits in with "Tiny & Tough" right? :)

Dessert Table. Do you see the hurricane glass filled with Buttered Popcorn Jelly Bellies? I think there was only 1 person eating those-- well 2, if you count baby Tank.

Jolin requested lots of peanut butter desserts and that's what she got! Here are the cupcakes Abbey baked.

Good 'ole PB cookies.

Light Appetizers.

4-Wheeler Diaper cake, made by Rachel.

Complete with a baby Texans hat, just for Kris.

This was a baby shower with some alcohol options...  Abbey made a delicious blue coctail- virgin and non... :)

Spinach Salad with Warm Bacon dressing. Sauteed onions, mushrooms, bacon, and hard boiled eggs.

Smashed Potatoes with Rosemary

Check out the Apple/Fontina/Cranberry Stuffed Chicken. The white wine reduction is totally necessary :)

The ladies.

Guest of honor!

"Daddy Knows Best" Game. Jolin's answers are shown in blue, Kris's in red. Pretty close I'd say! (1 question got censored).

Multi-tasking game. How fast can you hang clothes on the clothesline, while talking on the phone, and holding a baby?

Abbey and Jolin.

Do-it-Yourself Onsies.

Time to be creative.

Kelley got artistic.

Pack'N'Play excitement.

Summer made this airplane blanket for baby.

Jolin & I.

Friends!

Baby Tank should be making his entrance into the world very soon!

Fresh Salmon

Wednesday, June 20, 2012
It's a big day in Alaska- it's the summer solstice! The longest day of the year, which means we'll have maybe 2 hours of dusk, but no complete darkness at night. crazy right?!

I have a little secret for you. Ready?!

Fresh salmon tastes waaaaaaaay better than salmon that's been vacuum sealed and frozen for a year. Roma can have that frozen salmon, I'm going in search of the fresh stuff. It's a bright read color and melts in your mouth when it's fresh out of the water. Delicious.

Fresh salmon, Greek Salad, and sweet potato fries

Dad agrees with my fresh fish sentiments.

Ross tried out a new recipe- Grilled Smoked Salmon from Cook's Illustrated. It was fairly straightforward and altered the taste of the salmon, which is really awesome when you eat it at least once a week!

Well what do we have here...?

A grey one. Look at the zoomed out picture. What do you see?

The pup likes to keep her eye on the Omega-3's at all times.

And seriously, how can one argue with this face?
